Today's bento is my back to asian basics. I used some "asian" noodles that I got in an american grocery store, fried shrimp, leftover broccoli, zucchini in little food cups, and peaches.

I usually don't never add fruit in my bentos, but I thought I would mix it up today. We'll see how it works when I eat it.

Update: Turns out the peaches was a bad idea XD I didn't think through that I'd have to warm my bento and that the peaches (though strained) are juicy...basically, just a bad idea haha

Inspiration: Fried Shrimp inspired by Just Bento.

your stuff looks good (and you even photograph well! my main problem is that i never have a good background- it's always messy/dirty in the kitchen- suggestions?), but you might want to turn down the yellow tint on your pictures. it makes everything look washed out and fade together.

ooh, i follow just bento too. it was especially useful for me when i was trying to buy a bento box- material considerations, care, washing, etc.

for wet things (olives, washed lettuce) i usually dab them off on a paper towel- doesn't help a whole lot, but better than nothing (i also have the problem that my bento box isn't watertight, very unfortunate)

None of my bentos are water tight either xD But, I almost never have saucy things that I have to worry about. If I do, I put the sauce in a ziploc, roll it up, and put it in the bento.

As for my photos, they are actually all taken on my phone. xD I'm too super lazy to make an actual setup, and I'm usually making my bento right before heading out to the bus, so I don't have the time to pull out my SLR and get a good shot. Though, I could always fix the white balance easily enough.

If you're not rushing like I am, you can always clear off a table/counter/chair/whatever and put a white poster board (the floppy kind) down as the background. That should help.

in that case, your photos are wonderful! can't believe you make your lunch before you leave in the morning, though. i always make mine the night before and (if i'm not using mostly leftovers) it can take a few hours. i have an idea for a side, maybe, but then i have huge holes in the bento to fill in with *something*. i'm afraid i haven't been very creative with food recently, maybe i've been eating too much...

I've been trying to cut back on meat, and have been trying new things, let's just say they don't always work out. I want to find more things that can go in a bento, but I have sort of hit a wall of things that I like. I'll even browse the recipes on Just Bento...I made dumplings that turned out AWESOME!!! But, I really need to figure out some veggie dishes other than plain and stir fry @_@

yeah, my fallbacks are coming up more and more often (i usually just make an omelet with leftover veggies). Try roasting vegetables, they start tasting sort of smoky and richer and sweeter. I guess you could always curry them or do something like Bombay potatoes.

ha ha, i've definitely had failures too. one time i made fancy spring rolls using rice paper wrappers and, because there was other damp stuff with them in the lunch box, they just disintegrated into white goop. urgh. i barely had anything to eat that day ):

feel free to switch out of using a bento box, though. like sometimes i have something i *know* is too liquidy, it'll leak (ex. pasta with tomato sauce), so i just dump it into an old glass peanut butter jar. it doesn't leak at all and it lets me have more variety/creativity in my lunch.

i'm vegetarian and i've found that there are lots of experimenting vegan/vegetarian bloggers out there. there are tons of great recipes and some people even specialize in bento food. it's very convenient, you can browse till you feel inspired.
